Björk's impact on modern music
The Icelandic musician Björk has created some of the most Avant-garde albums of all time that have blurred the lines of pop, industrial, R&B, and electronic influencing future artist of our generation with her iconic sound.
Björk's first solo album Debut was the start of an influential and iconic solo music career with songs like Venus as a Boy, Human Behavior, and aero plane. Debut reconstructs pop music, Bjork made created her signature whimsical and almost mythological sound influenced by techno, jazz, pop, and Bollywood. In 1993 it changed the status quo of what pop music could be.
Debut {1993}

Post {1995}

Björk's second album Post was not only a continuation of Debut but a contradiction to it. Where Debut was steeped in mysticism and secrets Post is revealing and bare, holding nothing back. The songs on Post embody the change of Björk's home moving from Iceland to England. Even the album cover shows the psychedelic changes in scenery. Songs like Army of Me, It's oh so Quiet, and Hyper-ballad (Family Tree Version) are still to this day some of Björk's best-written songs.

Homogenic {1997}
After two years from her iconic album Post, Björk worked in Málaga, Spain to find her a singular sound. After an attempt on her life from a pipe bomb left her scared she returned to her icy volcanic homeland and was inspired by the natural landscape. While many artists have tried to fuse classical music with synthetic beats and failed Björk was one of the few to succeed in blending both without reducing either. Homogenic is an awe-inspiring album filled with synthetic beats and orchestral arrangements that create something unheard of in the '90s. Björk's voice gives this album life and power on Joga she sings of true love and being completely won over by someone. And on the opening track, Hunter sings of tracking down her love throughout the world. Homogenic is credited as one the most influential electronic albums of all time and it really can't be denied that the work Bjork put into this project is an innovation of music. Many artist credit Homogenic as a important piece in developing their music artist like FKA Twigs, Arca, Missy Elliott, M.I.A., and many more.

Vespertine {2001}
Where Homogenic was filled with bellowing vocals and instrumentals that described Björk homeland she went in a different direction for her next album. Instead of describing the world as she sees it, Björk decided to create her own. Vespertine saw a stark change in Björk discography instead of a loud orchestral arrangement with blaring brass instrumentals there are tiny organic micro-beats that took nearly three years to finalize accompany her quiet yet seductive voice. On the opening track, Hidden Place imagines a world where she and her lover can live without fear. And on Cocoon she sings of pure love and how it has changed her view on life. Vespertine is a love letter to the world, Björk quietly exclaiming she has found love in this confusing world. While Vespertine is completely different from her previous pieces of work it stands on its own pedestal in her discography it's like nothing she has ever created a gentle yet bold exclamation of love.
